Bind a macro in a minute

  1. Type /macro while out of combat.
  2. Pick the tab with your mage's name so the macro stays on this character.
  3. Click New, type the short name shown on the card, and pick the red question-mark icon: it lets #showtooltip show the real spell icon.
  4. Click Copy on the card, paste into the big box, and click Save.
  5. Drag the macro onto an action bar and bind that slot in Options > Keybindings.
  6. Test it out of combat with every modifier listed on the card.

Before you rely on a key. These macros are checked against Blizzard's Forever posts and the Forever client's own UI code, but none has been run in the game yet. Test each one out of combat first. Checked against build 1.60.1.70374 on Oct 15, 2026.

What Forever changed for mages

From Blizzard's Mage and Shaman class deep dive, beta development notes through October 8, and Wowhead Forever spell and talent data; client labels keep unconfirmed details visible.

Arcane GeometryNew range talent: 3 or 6 extra yards for Arcane spells. Check the range on utility spells such as Polymorph too.
Arcane ImpactReplaces Improved Arcane Explosion: three ranks give 2/4/6% critical chance to all Arcane spells. Arcane Mind also changed, now increasing Intellect and the critical damage bonus of Arcane spells.
Arcane BlastNew 11-point talent. Each cast adds 10% damage to your other damage spells and 175% mana cost to Arcane Blast, up to four stacks; the client says another damage spell consumes them.
Missile BarrageNew 16-point talent. Arcane Blast has a 40% chance, and Fireball, Frostbolt, and Frostfire Bolt a 20% chance, to make the next Arcane Missiles free and twice as fast.
Wake of FireReplaces Improved Fire Blast. At 2/2, Fire Blast has a two-second shorter cooldown and gains 50% critical chance after a qualifying kill; the beta notes extended that bonus window to 30 seconds.
IncinerationThe renamed, earlier Fire talent now covers Ice Lance and Arcane Blast as well as Fire Blast and Scorch. Three ranks give 2/4/6% critical chance.
Heating UpRequires Pyroblast. Each qualifying direct critical strike cuts the next Pyroblast cast by 25%, up to three stacks lasting 20 seconds; this is not an instant Pyroblast.
Ice LanceNew instant spell from the 11-point Frost talent. Frozen targets take 300% increased damage; Fingers of Frost can supply the frozen condition without an actual root.
Fingers of FrostRequires Ice Lance and 20 points in Frost. Chill effects have a 15% chance to treat the next one or two casts as hitting a frozen target, depending on rank, for up to 15 seconds.
Ice BlockMoved to the 16-point Frost slot, so a pure Frost build can take it at 25. Cold Snap now needs 21 Frost points and has a ten-minute cooldown.
Improved BlizzardThe talent slow tops out at 40%, rather than Era's 65%. Cone of Cold also has a shorter slow duration; old farming pulls need a fresh test.
Frostfire BoltNew trained spell at 40, counted as Fire and Frost. It uses your higher Fire or Frost damage bonus and the target's lower resistance; no level-30 build can cast it.
Arcane MeditationThree points now keep 50% of Spirit mana regeneration going while casting and require Arcane Concentration 5/5. Mage Armor also gives more Spirit regeneration, while Arcane Shielding now boosts its resistances and reduces Mana Shield's mana loss.
IgniteEach mage now has a separate Ignite; beta notes also removed double counting of percentage damage bonuses. Improved Scorch and Winter's Chill likewise benefit only their caster, with Winter's Chill limited to Frostbolt and Ice Lance.
Arcane MissilesThe October 8 notes say line of sight is checked at the start of the channel, rather than on every missile. Improved Channeling also covers Arcane Blast pushback, with 100% protection for Arcane Missiles and 70% for Arcane Blast at 5/5 in the client tooltip.
Magic AttunementMoved out of the talent tree into baseline mage abilities. The client lists it from level 1; Comprehend Scroll is also a new spellbook ability for deciphering found scrolls.
Conjure FoodForever's client lists the level-60 Cinnamon Roll rank among learnable spells, but Wowhead also retains a tome record and old comments. Its acquisition and batch size need a live check; do not promise a new food table.
Conjure WaterThe client lists the Crystal Water rank at 60, and Wowhead also has a level-60 rank-8 record missing from the training list. Check actual learn sources and output before assuming the Era quest or a new top rank is available.
Portal: OrgrimmarForever data keeps Horde portals to Orgrimmar and Undercity at 40 and Thunder Bluff at 50. The new Teleport: Dalaran entry at 50 is flagged for Alliance races on Wowhead, so leave it off the Horde plan unless the live trainer says otherwise.
ShootSince September 24, spell power no longer adds wand damage. Wand Specialization still reaches its 25% bonus with two talent points, rather than five.

Best wand at every level

For an Orc, Troll, or Undead mage, use the strongest available wand to finish enemies without spending mana. Forever's Arcane Wand Specialization has two ranks, +13% and +25% wand damage; spell power stopped adding wand damage on September 24.

PvP in Forever

  • Honor is a currency earned through player kills, battlegrounds, and relevant PvP quests; Rank Points track advancement toward High Warlord. They serve different jobs.
  • The rank system has a weekly cap. Rank 2 unlocks the PvP trinket and rank 14 unlocks weapons; do not copy Era weekly thresholds or decay rules without a Forever check.
  • Seasonal weekly tasks award Honor and Rank Points, and three season tasks also award Legacy Points. The tasks remain available in later seasons.
  • Darkspear Islands is 15 against 15 for levels 30 to 60. Hold four bases and take the central flag to a base your team owns; the first team to 2,000 points wins.
  • Horde reputation is Darkspear Raiders. Queue through a capital battlemaster or their Merchant Coast base in the Barrens; reputation vendors and quests reward participation.
  • Client planning: use slows and Polymorph to protect flag carriers and healers. Launch brackets, control diminishing returns, flag interactions with immunities, and exact Honor limits need testing.
  • Era tactics below are practical starting habits, not confirmed Forever PvP tuning. A level-30 mage only has the defensive and burst spells their actual talents unlock.

Your PvP tools

  • PolymorphLearned at 8. Era tactic: take a healer or spare attacker out of the fight; damage breaks sheep and it heals its target, so avoid sheeping the enemy your team is bursting.
  • CounterspellLearned at 24. Interrupt the important cast; the Forever ability guide lists a ten-second lockout of that spell school. Improved Counterspell adds a separate silence if talented.
  • Frost NovaLearned at 10. Root melee, then move away; damage can break the root. Era tactic: buy your healer room before trying to win the damage race.
  • BlinkLearned at 20. Era tactic: create distance after a stun or root; re-test which Forever effects it breaks and check the landing ground.
  • Ice BlockNeeds 16 Frost points. It buys an immunity window while you cannot move or cast; coordinate the next step rather than waiting for enemies to leave.
  • Cone of ColdLearned at 26. Slow enemies in front of you while moving away; Forever shortened the slow, so keep watching the gap.
  • Presence of MindClient talent: your next mage spell with a cast shorter than ten seconds becomes instant. Era tactic: a quick Polymorph can stop pressure; this still needs a second action to cast the spell.
  • Ice LanceOfficial new Frost talent: an instant follow-up for frozen targets or Fingers of Frost charges. Do not treat every slowed enemy as frozen.
  • Cold Snap21 Frost points and a ten-minute cooldown. Refresh other Frost cooldowns when their next use will save the fight; verify Ice Block reuse restrictions in Forever.
  • Remove Lesser CurseLearned at 18. Remove a dangerous curse from a teammate when doing so matters more than another damage cast; it is not a general magic dispel.
  • Fire BlastClient instant damage for movement or a finish. Wake of Fire rewards a qualifying kill, but Fire damage can break your own Polymorph.
  • Ice BarrierClient 31-point Frost talent, unavailable in these 21-point level-30 presets. It absorbs damage and prevents damage pushback while holding; the 21/0/30 PvP preset gives it up.

Talents and Legacy

Talents begin at 10, with 21 points at the beta cap of 30 and 51 at 60. Splits read Arcane / Fire / Frost. These presets use no Talented bonus. They are legal plans from the October 14 client trees, not measured rankings; level-60 plans remain untested. Respec at a capital-city class trainer, with dual specialization available at 40. Client talent source: https://www.wowhead.com/forever/talent-calc/mage.

Legacy picks for a mage

Legacy opens for the account once a character reaches 25; Blizzard also lists earlier access through certain profession or exploration challenges. Each character spends the account's points separately, up to 16 at launch. You still have to earn those points; the beta grant is not a launch gift.

  1. Well RestedFaster rested XP and a larger rested bank suit gaming after bedtime. Client prerequisite: take 5/5 before Talented.5 points
  2. TalentedClient ranks move your first talent point to levels 9/8/7/6/5. At 5/5 you have 26 at level 30, but the maximum remains 51.5 points
  3. Thrill of AdventureOutdoor qualifying killing blows return some health and mana. It does not work in dungeons, raids, or battlegrounds in the client data.5 points
  4. Field MedicineThe first rank shortens Recently Bandaged outside instances. Handy when the next pull can wait and the bandage cannot.1 point
  5. Reagent EconomyA later service option for portal and buff reagents. Client data requires 10 points in Resourcefulness before buying it, so it is an alternative plan.1 point after prerequisites

The first four picks spend 16 points. Perk names and broad effects are official; ranks, costs, prerequisites, and the 51-point ceiling come from ForeverDB's client calculator at https://foreverdb.net/legacy. Check the live panel before spending. Talented adds no level-60 points.

Frost leveling

0/0/21

A calm single-target plan: Frostbolt slows the approach, Frost Nova buys space, and Ice Lance rewards a freeze. It reaches Ice Block at 25 and one Fingers of Frost charge at 30; it does not include Cold Snap.

Legacy: No Legacy required. With Talented 5/5, add Fingers of Frost 1, Ice Shards 1, Cold Snap 1, and Elemental Precision 2 for 0/0/26; this still does not reach Ice Barrier.

A leveling-friendly wand start grows into Arcane Blast setup and free, faster missiles. Clear the expensive stacks with a useful damage spell when mana gets tight; four stacks are a choice, not a household rule.

Legacy: No Legacy required. With Talented 5/5, add Arcane Mind 5/5 for 26/0/0. Arcane Power still needs 31 Arcane points.

Frost AoE and dungeons

0/0/21

For planned outdoor packs or dungeon area damage. Improved Blizzard, Permafrost, and Arctic Reach buy room, while Ice Block and Cold Snap give recovery tools. No Frostbite: the Era habit of avoiding scattered random roots still needs a Forever field test.

Legacy: No Legacy required. With Talented 5/5, add Elemental Precision 4 and Ice Lance 1 for 0/0/26. Ice Barrier still needs 31 Frost points.

Plans for 60

Frost control and raids Untested

20/0/31

Untested level-60 plan with Ice Barrier, two Fingers of Frost charges, and personal Winter's Chill. Arcane adds mana recovery and Improved Counterspell for control. Trade utility only after checking encounter needs; this is not a proven raid damage maximum.

Fire raid plan Untested

17/31/3

Untested Fire plan for enemies that accept Fire damage: personal Scorch stacks, Heating Up, mana refunds, and Combustion. Era Onyxia resisted Fire heavily; verify Forever bosses instead of assuming this is the launch-raid default. Frostfire Bolt interactions also need testing above 30.

Arcane and Frost PvP Untested

21/0/30

Untested control hybrid with Cold Snap, two Fingers of Frost charges, Improved Counterspell, Missile Barrage, and Presence of Mind. It gives up Ice Barrier and Winter's Chill; this leveling order takes Frost first and gets Presence of Mind at 60. A deliberate trade, not a free upgrade.

Is there a Horde Wintersaber?

Not confirmed. No source shows a Desolace raptor grind in Forever. The Horde counterpart players remember is the Venomhide Ravasaur from Un'Goro Crater, which arrived in Wrath of the Lich King. Forever's database lists the mount and its faction, but not how to get them.

Training and gold

Every level with something new is listed, from 1 to 60. Mages train every two levels; portals come from the portal trainer beside the mage trainers.

Ranks you can skip

  • Buy your main nuke first every time: Frostbolt for Frost, Fireball for Fire. A new rank is your biggest upgrade.
  • Conjure Water ranks pay for themselves: better water means less drinking and fewer bought drinks.
  • Ranks of the school you don't use (Fire as a Frost mage, Frost as Fire) can wait until gold is easy.
  • Teleports at 20 and portals at 40 cost reagents and gold; buy the one for your home city first.
  • If gold is tight before your mount, delay Dampen Magic, Amplify Magic and Fire Ward ranks, never Polymorph or Counterspell.

Gear and consumables

Cloth, a good spell-power weapon, and enough mana to finish the pull. These Horde picks work for Orc, Troll and Undead mages. Level 30 stats are client data; the level 60 route is era planning. Gaming after bedtime does not require farming every rare drop.

Leveling 1 to 30Intellect, Stamina and Spirit, then spell damageMore mana, fewer surprise deaths, and better recovery between pulls. Take big spell-power weapon upgrades when they appear. Spell power has not increased wand Shoot damage since September 24.
DungeonsSpell damage for your school, enough Intellect and Stamina, then Spirit or mana per 5 secondsHit helps against higher-level targets. Keep mana for the next pack and enough health to survive a stray mob. Mana regeneration matters when Dad Bods keeps moving.
Raid Frost or FireSpell hit to the cap first, then spell damage, then spell critA level-60 caster needs 16% total spell hit against a level-63 boss, with 1% unavoidable miss. Forever raid cap is not officially confirmed or testable in the level-30 beta. Client Elemental Precision is 1% Fire and Frost hit per rank, up to 5%, so an Era-style cap would mean 11% gear hit at 5/5. If Forever removes the last 1% miss, the target would instead be 17% total and 12% gear hit. Neither is a confirmed Forever raid cap. Elemental Precision does not help Arcane.
PvPStamina and spell damage, with enough Intellect for the fightHealth buys time to Blink, sheep and reset. A damage score cannot tell you whether you survive the next stun.

Gear to aim for by 30

All equip requirements are 30 or lower. These are client tooltips from Wowhead Forever, including the shared tooltip cache. Boss levels and quest chains can still make a piece hard to earn. Pick your school's headpiece; the rest is a useful shared set. BoP crafts must be made by the wearer. The staff replaces both hand slots. Rare trinkets are a bonus, not homework.

Best weapon at every level

Your staff earns its keep with spell damage and Intellect, not bonking things. These are practical upgrade targets for each bracket; compare both pieces of a dagger and off-hand setup before replacing a good staff.

Client data means Forever tooltips or reports, Era means Classic targets awaiting Forever checks, and you keep your weapon until an affordable eligible upgrade beats it; sources are in LEVELING.src.

Pre-raid targets at 60

Seventeen classic pre-raid targets, checked against Forever database entries or quest references. This is an era shopping route, not tested Forever best-in-slot. Frost uses Boreal Mantle; Fire and Arcane use Elder Wizard's Mantle instead. Eye of the Beast is still a hidden item in its Forever quest, so its old stats are not confirmed. Compare your current weapon before replacing it: Forever's lower-level caster weapons gained a lot of spell power. Level-60 drops and recipes still need a launch check.

Healing-potion recipes moved to First Aid; mana potions remain Alchemy. Read Discolored Healing Potion carefully because its delayed damage can undo part of the heal. Smoked Sagefish and Nightfin Soup give spell damage in Forever instead of Era mana regeneration. September 24 restored Wizard Oil values to 8, 16 and 24 spell power; it also removed wand scaling. Reagent-free Legacy choices may change what you carry, so check your spell tooltip. Potion and elixir stacking above 30 is not tested here. In Classic Era, the Light Feather, teleport, portal and Arcane Powder reagent list needs checking against your current Forever spell tooltips.

Gear planner

Pick a piece for each slot and watch your stats and Frost, Fire and Arcane damage scores add up; these Era-based scores compare gear, while hit caps, procs and survival still need your judgment.

0Damage scorein spell damage points

Items and stats: Wowhead's Forever database; pieces Forever doesn't list yet use Classic data and say Era data. Score weights, in the units each stat is shown in. Frost: int 0.125, sp 1, dmg 1, frost 1, crit 9, hit 12.5; Fire: int 0.125, sp 1, dmg 1, fire 1, crit 9, hit 12.5; Arcane: int 0.125, sp 1, dmg 1, arcane 1, crit 9, hit 12.5. Sources: Warcraft Tavern: Phase 1 Mage Compendium, published Era ratios: spell power 1, Intellect 1/8, crit 8 to 10 (planner midpoint 9), hit about 12.5 · Planner interpretation: the same Era baseline is used for all three school scores.

Mage in groups

Mage in groups: control the extra enemy, stop the dangerous cast, and let the tank gather the pack before you light it up. Water before the run is a small kindness that makes the evening smoother.

Set up your screen

  1. Client setup: enable readable enemy nameplates and cast bars so you can spot a healer cast without changing targets.
  2. Client setup: keep sheep on focus or use mouseover Polymorph; bind mouseover Counterspell separately. Supplied client data lists Polymorph at 8 and Counterspell at 24.
  3. Client evidence: Forever macro reports list /focus, @focus, and @cursor support, but ForeverDB examples are client-checked and not beta-tested. Practice first; use mouseover or manual targeting if focus fails, and reserve cursor targeting for ground spells.
  4. Client setup: show curses on party and raid frames and bind Remove Lesser Curse beside them. Supplied spell data lists it at 18; it removes curses, not magic, disease, or poison.
  5. Client setup: enable built-in threat warnings or a Forever-compatible threat display and Target of Target; stop casting when an enemy starts looking at you.
  6. Client setup: show raid marks on nameplates and keep healer mana visible; confirm what Moon and Star mean before pulling.

Raid marks

  • SkullKill first after the tank has it; interrupt if assigned.
  • CrossKill second; stay on Skull until the tank calls the switch.
  • MoonYour Polymorph if assigned. Refresh it and keep area damage away.
  • SquareAnother player's control unless told otherwise; leave it alone.
  • StarAssigned interrupt or extra control; agree which before pulling.

Habits that make you the mage people invite

  • Sheep the moon.Era habit: Polymorph your assigned eligible enemy and refresh before it ends. One mage controls one target; tell the tank when sheep resists or breaks.
  • Keep damage off control.Era habit: place Blizzard, Flamestrike, and Arcane Explosion away from sheep and traps. Damage breaks Polymorph, and it heals its target quickly.
  • Let the tank call area damage.Era habit: wait for the pack to settle and the tank to say go. A big number helps less when the healer is wearing the pack.
  • Nova with a reason.Era habit: coordinate Frost Nova with the tank; rooted enemies can hit whoever is beside them. Use it to rescue someone or create space, then move clear.
  • Aim Cone of Cold carefully.Era habit: slow the enemies the tank wants slowed. Do not step into melee or clip sheep to fit another enemy in the cone.
  • Watch threat before it wins.Era habit: pause damage near the tank's threat lead. Keep Ice Block for danger if talented; temporary protection does not guarantee your threat disappears.
  • Remove the curse.Client spell: Remove Lesser Curse at 18. Era habit: handle assigned frames promptly; a saved tank beats one more Frostbolt.
  • Keep Intellect up.Client spell: Arcane Intellect from 1. Check new arrivals and revived players; split buff groups with other mages.
  • Offer water before the pull.Era habit: ask the healer what water they can use, then trade enough for the run. Conjure your food, water, and learned mana gem before everyone moves.
  • Interrupt the right cast.Era habit: Counterspell the enemy healer or the cast that hurts. Agree an order so two dads do not spend theirs on the same sentence.
  • Let everyone drink.Era habit: call low mana early and stop at safe breaks. An extra pull is a poor time to discover your mana gem is still in the spellbook.
  • Offer the ride home.Era habit: ask which city the group wants and offer a portal once trained. Client data lists Orgrimmar and Undercity at 40, Thunder Bluff at 50; carry portal reagents after beta.

Which spell when

Pick the spell that solves the problem, then leave room for the next problem. Level-30 choices follow Forever's client training list and require any named talents; level-60 additions are untested plans, with older habits marked Era.

SituationAt 30At 60Why
One target while levelingFrost: Frostbolt, then Ice Lance on a freeze if talented. Fire: Fireball and a useful Fire Blast, with Pyroblast when Heating Up makes the cast practical. Arcane: a few Arcane Blast stacks, then a damage spell to clear them; use Missile Barrage when it appears.Keep those choices with trained ranks. Frost can maintain personal Winter's Chill; Fire uses personal Scorch stacks on long-lived targets. Try Frostfire Bolt only after testing the build's interactions.Do not spend a whole mana bar setting up a target that will die to the next wand shot.
Several enemiesWith the AoE talents, Frost Nova, move out, and place Blizzard ahead of the pack. Use Cone of Cold from 26 when they close; Arcane Explosion requires being near them. Keep sheep out of every damage area.Use the same careful spacing with trained ranks. Ice Barrier helps if talented; Cold Snap refreshes other Frost cooldowns when a recovery matters.Forever weakened the old slows. A smaller controlled pull beats a spectacular corpse run.
A caster starts a dangerous spellCounterspell from 24; before that, Polymorph a valid target before its cast if you can. Start Arcane Missiles with line of sight, but do not confuse damage with an interrupt.Counterspell remains the answer. Improved Counterspell adds a silence if talented; agree on interrupt turns with the group.Stop the cast that matters and save the healer a repair job.
A runner heads toward another packUse Frostbolt to slow it, or Cone of Cold if already in front of you. Fire Blast can finish low health; Frost Nova roots if it is nearby and vulnerable.Use the same trained controls. Ice Lance is a finish or frozen-target hit if talented, not a replacement for a slow.Stop the runner before it makes introductions you did not ask for.
Your health is lowFrost Nova and move away, then Blink from 20 if the landing is safe. Use a health potion; Frost can use Ice Block if talented. Bandage only after stopping incoming damage.Add Ice Barrier if talented before the next hit. Use Ice Block when needed and ask for help before leaving it.Control buys time to recover. One more cast is not worth the graveyard commute.
Your mana is lowUse a prepared Mana Agate from 28 or safely channel Evocation from 20. Between pulls, drink; if the target is almost dead, a wand costs no mana. Do not keep stacking expensive Arcane Blast.Use your learned mana gem and potion when appropriate, with cooldown sharing checked live. Mage Armor and Arcane Meditation help if available; do not spend a free-cast proc on pointless damage.Mana saved now leaves an interrupt, sheep, or rescue ready later.
A dungeon pull needs crowd controlAgree on the sheep mark, Polymorph the valid target, and refresh before it expires. Era habit: tell the group to keep damage over time and area spells off it.Keep the same job with your trained rank. Presence of Mind can make a rescue Polymorph instant if talented; it does not choose a safe target for you.One clear assignment is easier than four people apologizing over the broken sheep.
You pulled aggro off the tankStop damage and move toward the tank. Root only if it helps the recovery; Blink should not carry the pack toward your healer. Ice Block can buy time if talented.Keep the same recovery. Threat-reduction talents apply by school; neither a stronger spell nor Ice Barrier hands the enemies back to the tank.Bring the problem where the tank can solve it. Era habit: Ice Block is a pause, not a threat wipe.
The healer is in troublePolymorph a valid attacker, Counterspell a dangerous caster, or Frost Nova nearby melee while the healer moves away. Remove Lesser Curse from 18 if a curse is causing the trouble.Use those controls and an instant Polymorph with Presence of Mind if talented. Recheck control immunity rather than repeating a spell that cannot land.A clean peel or curse removal often helps more than racing the enemy's health bar.
A rogue opens on youEra tactic: Blink out of a breakable stun when safe, Frost Nova to make space, and face the next approach. Use Ice Block if talented and the burst needs an immunity window.Ice Barrier helps before the opener if talented; Cold Snap supplies recovery Frost cooldowns. Recheck Blink breaks, diminishing returns, and Ice Block reuse in Forever.Get space first. The clever combo can wait until you are allowed to press a key.

Raids in Forever

  • Launch is November 4, 2026. First raids open December 9: Onyxia's Lair for 40 players, Barrow Deeps for 10, and Hyjal Summit for 20.
  • Beta caps at 30. Level-60 mage builds, resist gear, and raid jobs here are preparation, not tested raid advice.
  • Improved Scorch and Winter's Chill support the casting mage's own spells. Keep personal stacks where talented; neither is a shared raid job.
  • Other Classic raids have no confirmed Forever dates in the sources checked. Their attunements, consumables, and tactics below are future plans. Era data
  • New-raid names come from the supplied beta-data roster; names and counts do not reveal mechanics or kill order. Do not copy TBC Hyjal tactics. Era data
  • Bring supplies for your job. Check potion cooldown sharing and buff stacking in Forever before copying an Era plan. Era data
  • Mages remove curses. Ask another class for magic, disease, or poison removal. Era data
  • Do not budget world buffs, fixed resistance totals, or unchanged attunements until the guild checks live rules. Era data

Before the raid: assignments

  1. Split Remove Lesser Curse coverage by group number, name a backup, and put tanks first where curses are dangerous.
  2. Name each Polymorph target and its mage. Agree marks, refresh timing, and where area damage can land.
  3. Split Arcane Intellect by group. Offer food and water before the raid and to replacements; arrange portals home.
  4. Improved Scorch benefits your own Fire damage; Winter's Chill benefits your own Frostbolt and Ice Lance. Each talented mage maintains their own stacks; do not assign one mage to stack for everybody.
  5. Agree the tank's signal for big pulls, interrupt order, and when to pause damage for threat.

Before every pull

  1. Mana above the agreed floor; drink before the ready check.
  2. Arcane Intellect and your chosen armor buff up; learned mana gem ready.
  3. Polymorph target marked and clear of area damage; know when the tank wants sheep.
  4. Curse frames visible and assigned groups in range; confirm a backup if you must move.
  5. Plan personal Scorch or Winter's Chill upkeep if talented, plus a safe damage school for this boss.
  6. Wait for tank threat, then follow the kill mark. Keep an escape lane and Ice Block ready if talented.

Mage jobs by raid size

RaidMagesWho does what
10 players: Barrow Deeps1 to 2 magesSuggested roster: split curses across groups 1 and 2, assign sheep if needed, and share water and Intellect work. Boss-specific mage jobs are unknown.
20 players: Hyjal Summit, Zul'Gurub, AQ202 to 3 magesSuggested roster: divide four groups for Intellect and curses; name a backup and separate sheep marks. Each talented mage owns personal Scorch or Winter's Chill stacks.
40 players: Onyxia, Molten Core and later4 to 6 magesSuggested roster: divide eight groups for buffs and curses with a tank backup. Name each control and interrupt target; share food and water work and wait for the tank's area damage call.

Mage counts are planning suggestions, not requirements; Era control and threat habits need Forever testing, and personal Scorch and Winter's Chill replace old shared-stack jobs.

Mage tips

Forever details use Blizzard's mage deep dive, beta notes, and current client talents. Era marks older Classic habits that still need testing here. Pick the spell that solves the pull, then save enough mana to solve the next one. Era reference: Icy Veins Classic Mage Leveling Guide, https://www.icy-veins.com/wow-classic/classic-mage-leveling-guide.

Leveling and distance

  • Start with room to move. Era habit: pull one enemy with Frostbolt and move before it reaches you. Fight facing a clear escape route.
  • Nova, then step back. Frost Nova is listed at 10. A root does not stop a nearby enemy hitting you; leave melee reach before your next cast.
  • Use the frozen window. If you bought Ice Lance, use it on a frozen target or with Fingers of Frost. A slow alone does not mean frozen.

Mana between pulls

  • Drink before empty. Keep current Conjure Water ranks and sit between safe pulls. Tell the tank you are drinking; the mana bar is a group resource.
  • Give Spirit a quiet moment. Era five-second rule: spending mana slows Spirit regeneration for five seconds. Wanding gives you a mana-free gap; check Forever regeneration in the live client.
  • Prepare the mana gem. Conjure Mana Agate is listed at 28. Make it before trouble, and use a trained Evocation from 20 only when you can safely channel.

The wand still earns its bag slot

  • Finish a small health bar cheaply. Client leveling reports favor a wand when a few casts would waste mana. Stand still for Shoot; spell power stopped adding wand damage on September 24.
  • Two points are a real choice. Wand Specialization 2/2 gives 25% wand damage. Taking Arcane points delays deep Fire or Frost talents, so only the Arcane leveling preset spends them.

Small AoE practice

  • Build the control first. Blizzard is trained at 20 in the client list. The AoE preset finishes Improved Blizzard 3/3 at 22; start with a few melee enemies on clear ground.
  • Watch the edge of the slow. Forever reduces Improved Blizzard to a 40% slow and shortens Cone of Cold's slow. Move early and abandon a bad pull before the pack reaches you.
  • Keep the pack together. Era habit: avoid Frostbite in a dedicated Blizzard build because random roots can split the pack. Casters and patrols are reasons to pick a smaller pull.

Dungeons and threat

  • Let the tank collect the pack. Era habit: open gently and avoid early Arcane Explosion. Frost Channeling and Burning Soul reduce their own school's threat; Arcane Subtlety reduces Arcane threat.
  • Bring loose enemies home. Run toward the tank when you pull aggro. Talented Ice Block can buy time, but it does not promise to erase your threat; keep a plan for when it ends.
  • Help before chasing damage. Counterspell at 24 and Remove Lesser Curse at 18 can save a healer's whole cast. Keep Polymorph away from damage over time and area attacks.

Food, water, and the ride home

  • Share before the first pull. Ask who needs food or water and trade what they can use. It is a small kindness that keeps bedtime dungeon runs moving.
  • Check the destination together. Client Horde travel list: Orgrimmar and Undercity teleports at 20, Thunder Bluff at 30; their portals at 40, 40, and 50. Bring the appropriate runes unless Reagent Economy covers them.
  • Do not import a refreshment table. Forever's data lists Conjure Food and Conjure Water, not a learned table spell. Top-rank sources and any extra water rank need a launch check.

Forever spell habits

  • Short ranks have a cost. Blizzard says very low ranks have less bonus damage and weaker talent trigger chances. Use rank 1 Frostbolt for a deliberate slow, not cheap Clearcasting fishing.
  • Read the Fire buff. Heating Up reduces cast time by at most 75%. Wake of Fire gives its post-kill Fire Blast window for 30 seconds; stop for a drink when you need one.
  • Keep your own stacks. Improved Scorch and Winter's Chill are personal in Forever. Another mage maintaining theirs does not maintain yours.
  • Buy the next Frostbolt rank. Official October 8 change: Frostbolt ranks 1 through 5 were retuned to make progression through rank 6 consistent and new ranks upgrades. Do not use an old Era damage table to skip your main Frost spell.

Horde choices and controls

  • Pick the face you want at login. Blizzard's race table allows Orc, Troll, and Undead mages. Horde Windshaper Skyborne cannot be mages; High Order Skyborne mages belong to the Alliance.
  • Test the convenient targeting. Client evidence: ForeverDB's build-checked mage macros include /focus, [@focus], and [@cursor] for Blizzard and Flamestrike, while explicitly saying they are not live tested. The Forever UI mirror also contains focus commands. Recheck both features on launch; cursor targeting is for ground spells. Source: https://foreverdb.net/class/Mage/macros.

Addons and UI

Start with Blizzard's own tools, then add only what helps you see curses, threat and your procs. Readable bars beat a cockpit.

  • Default raid-style party frames Works in Forever

Edit Mode lets you use compact raid-style party frames and move them where you can read them. See who carries a curse for Remove Lesser Curse, who is missing Arcane Intellect, and how the healer's mana is doing.

Forever UI source includes the Edit Mode setting, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • Default Cooldown Manager Works in Forever

Blizzard's tracker supports class abilities, racials, and trinkets, with consumable support still due in a later patch. Keep Fear Ward and your talented cooldowns in view before shopping for more trackers.

Official October 8 support update, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • Default nameplates Works in Forever

Blizzard's nameplates put enemy health and cast bars above the mobs. Keep enemy plates visible so you can spot a loose mob while your mouse stays near the party frames.

  • Default Damage Meter Works in Forever

The built-in meter shows healing, damage, dispels, and deaths, and you can position it in Edit Mode. Review damage, deaths and interrupts after the pull. It teaches your rotation; it is not a scoreboard.

  • ThreatClassic2 Works in Forever

The Forever version shows threat for your enemy target, but its friendly-target healer mode is unavailable on this client. A mage crit can pull a fresh tank's target. Check the threat bar and ease off before Ice Block becomes the plan.

2.75-forever and explicit Forever limits, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • A damage and healing meter with overheal, dispel and death views. Review damage, deaths, interrupts and threat after the pull, where your client supports it.

Oct 14 release supports 1.60.1; threat and damage views unverified, Oct 15, 2026

  • Decursive Works in Forever

Decursive adds small unit buttons for spotting and manually removing effects your class can dispel. Remove Lesser Curse is a mage's raid job. Decursive shows who is cursed and cleanses with one click.

    2.9.0-RC3-forever released Oct 4, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • Questie Works in Forever

Questie's Forever-supported package adds quest markers and a quest database. Collect dungeon quests before the group leaves town, and the portal home afterward is on you.

    v12.1.0+v1.0.6 lists Forever 1.60.1, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • Baganator Works in Forever

Baganator gives you searchable bags in one window or categories and requires its Syndicator dependency. Keep conjured food and water, mana gems, portal runes and potions easy to find before the pull.

837 lists Forever support, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • Bartender4 Works in Forever

Bartender4 lets you rearrange action bars and bind their buttons. Put Polymorph, Counterspell, Frost Nova, Blink and Ice Block on keys you can hit without looking.

4.18.3.1 lists Forever support, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • Regular WeakAuras is not a drop-in Forever setup; Musca Auras is a 1.60.1 port whose modern aura triggers work within the client's limits. Useful reminders to test are Clearcasting, Fingers of Frost and Heating Up procs, Polymorph time left, Counterspell ready, a mana gem ready and Evocation.

Musca 1.9.1 supports 1.60.1; these mage auras unverified, Oct 15, 2026

Add and test one addon at a time, including a Polymorph on your mouseover target and a Counterspell, before adding the next.

Tailoring and Enchanting for mages

Tailoring and Enchanting makes a comfortable mage pair: cloth and bags from the first, caster weapons and enchants from the second. Turn outgrown magical gear into materials. Choose Engineering instead for PvP tools, or Alchemy if making the guild's damage elixirs and mana potions suits your evening better.

Free bags while you level: Handmade Leather Bag, 6 slots (Carry Your Weight, Durotar); Scuffed Shipping Crate, 8 (Parts and Pieces, Barrens); Deviate Hide Pack, 10 (Deviate Hides, Wailing Caverns); Spidersilk Pouch, 12 (Stronger than Steel, Mulgore, from 23); Old Toolbox, 12 (Stepping Stones, the sleeping-bag chain, which runs through Alliance zones). If your guild tailor has the Mageweave Bag recipe, two of those (8 Mageweave bolts and 4 Silken Thread) round out four 12-slot bags.

Tips

  • Expert needs level 20 and Artisan needs 35 in the shared profession route. Plan around the beta cap of 30 and skill 225.
  • School damage only helps that school. A Fire robe will not improve Frostbolt or Arcane Blast.
  • Keep First Aid alongside your primary professions. Forever moved healing potions there, and bandages give a mage a way to recover without a healer.
  • Disenchant upgrades only after you have replaced them. BoP Tailoring and Enchanting gear cannot simply be bought as finished items.
  • Bring food and water before the group starts. Sharing it is a kindness that saves everyone's gold and keeps the next pull relaxed.

Best enchants for a mage

Practical enchants for a mage's cloth and caster weapons. Favor spell power, Intellect and enough Stamina to survive. Skills belong to the enchanter, not the wearer; above 30, these are launch plans from client and era data.

  • The six level ranges are shopping stages, not enchant equip levels. A usable higher-skill service can replace an early pick. Skills match recipes.json; inspect any item-level restrictions and the formula before paying.
  • Fire Power and Frost Power glove enchants exist in Era, but neither recipe ID is in the shared recipes.json. The matrix uses Minor Haste, which Forever's tooltip says improves casting speed as well as attack speed. This keeps the calculator valid without inventing a recipe.
  • Head and leg arcanums are quest rewards, not Enchanting recipes. Era Arcanum of Focus gives +8 spell damage, and Presence of Sight gives +18 spell damage and healing plus 1% spell hit. Their quests, reputations and Forever access are unconfirmed; they are outside this matrix.
  • Revelation and the spell-power necklace are available in Forever formula data. Horde supply camps in the Barrens sell Merchant's Favor formulas. Skill-300 formulas and reputation gates still need a launch check.
  • Oils do not add damage to wand Shoot. Their spell-power bonus improves your damaging spells. A permanent weapon enchant and a temporary oil are different effects; check current stacking before buying a full raid stack.
  • These are practical picks, not measured Forever raid best-in-slot. Compare the price with how soon you expect to replace the item.

Troubleshooting

My sheep broke right away
Damage breaks Polymorph. Check your own wand, incoming projectiles, Fireball damage over time, and nearby area damage; ask the party to leave the sheep alone.
Blizzard will not place where I want
This card opens a targeting circle. Click valid ground in range; [@cursor] appears in community examples but Forever engine support is not verified here.
I cannot trade water to the healer
Get close, open trade by hand, and use water the healer meets the level requirement for; the conjure macro only creates items and does not trade them.
Ice Block will not let me cast
That is part of Ice Block. Press its toggle key again to remove it, or right-click its buff; removing the block ends your protection.
The wand keeps interrupting my casts
The wand key deliberately stops a cast when a living enemy is selected. Press it once when you mean to wand, then leave it alone; repeated presses are not protected.
My focus sheep does nothing
Set a living enemy focus first. Check creature type, range, line of sight, and mana; the focus-only card deliberately has no selected-target fallback.
Shift or Alt does nothing
Check for another binding on that modified key and confirm the exact rank is learned; try clicking the macro with that modifier held.
My talent button is red at the listed level
The level assumes every ordinary talent point goes into that tree from level 10. Buy the talent and required prerequisites first; a trainer upgrade does not grant the original talent.

Graphics and console settings

36 commands

A steady frame rate helps you place Blizzard and dodge fire on time, while readable ground effects keep your own ice from hiding the next danger. Start at native resolution and 100% render scale, with Low or Fair shadows, Medium particles and Projected Textures on. Cap your frame rate at what your PC can hold, and 30 in the background. Write down every value before you change it so you can put it back.

The Forever look

The September tip from Icy Veins that went around the community: render scale 98%, contrast 60, brightness 40 (some players prefer 45). The same sliders are in Settings > Graphics (Render Scale under Resolution; Contrast, Brightness and Gamma further down). It depends on your monitor, so try it in a foggy zone and keep what looks right.

Write down your current look first

Prints render scale, contrast, brightness and gamma so you can put them back.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run for _,n in ipairs({"RenderScale","Contrast","Brightness","Gamma"}) do print(n,C_CVar.GetCVar(n)) end

The Forever look: 98% scale, contrast 60, brightness 40

Icy Veins says 98% render scale cleans up the image and can save a few frames, and contrast 60 with brightness 40 makes the new fog stand out. One player post uses brightness 45. It depends on your monitor.

3 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console RenderScale 0.98
/console Contrast 60
/console Brightness 40

Undo: back to the game's defaults

Resets render scale, contrast and brightness to the client defaults. If you wrote down different values, type those instead.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run for _,n in ipairs({"RenderScale","Contrast","Brightness"}) do local d=C_CVar.GetCVarDefault(n); if d then C_CVar.SetCVar(n,d) end end

Record first

Screenshot Settings > Graphics (Base, Raid and Advanced) before you touch anything. These read-only lines print your current values to chat.

Read your current foreground cap

Prints your current maxFPS cap to chat and changes nothing. The on/off switch for the cap (useMaxFPS) is a separate setting, so this alone does not tell you whether the cap is on.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run print("maxFPS", C_CVar.GetCVar("maxFPS"))

Read the game's default cap

Prints what the game thinks the default maxFPS is, and changes nothing. That is the game's default, not the value you had before, so write your own down too.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run print("maxFPS default", C_CVar.GetCVarDefault("maxFPS"))

Record cap switches, VSync and render scale

Prints six settings in one go: both FPS caps and their on/off switches, VSync and render scale. Write the results down before you change anything so you can put them back.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run for _,n in ipairs({"useMaxFPS","maxFPS","useMaxFPSBk","maxFPSBk","vsync","RenderScale"}) do print(n,C_CVar.GetCVar(n)) end

Restore a recorded 120 FPS cap

Puts maxFPS back to 120. That is only an example: type whatever value you wrote down before tuning, not 120 because we said so.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console maxFPS 120

Reset one setting to the game's default

Asks the game for its default maxFPS and sets just that one setting back to it (swap in another name to reset a different setting). A default is not always what you had before, so if you wrote your old value down, type that instead.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run local n="maxFPS"; local d=C_CVar.GetCVarDefault(n); if d then C_CVar.SetCVar(n,d) end

Balanced starting profile

Native resolution, 100% render scale, 60 FPS while playing and 30 in the background, with combat effects kept readable.

Balanced starting profile

A readable starting profile: 60 FPS foreground, 30 background, 100% scale, Fair shadows/water, Medium particles, projected textures on, Low ambient occlusion, and moderate draw detail.

14 lines, 406 characters: too long for one macro. Type them one at a time in chat.

FPS, frame pacing and heat

Raise the cap only if your monitor and real frame rate make it worthwhile.

Test 90 FPS foreground / 30 background

Turns on both FPS caps: 90 while you are playing, 30 when the game is in the background. A cap cannot make a struggling PC reach 90; it just stops a fast one working harder and hotter than it needs to.

4 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console useMaxFPS 1
/console maxFPS 90
/console useMaxFPSBk 1
/console maxFPSBk 30

Turn the foreground cap off properly

Switches the foreground FPS cap off with its real switch, useMaxFPS 0. The old tip of setting maxFPS 0 is a guess; this is the actual switch, and your stored maxFPS number stays put for when you turn the cap back on.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console useMaxFPS 0

Disable Target FPS for a controlled test

Turns off Target FPS, a separate feature that is not the same thing as the FPS cap. Leave it as you found it unless it is muddying a before-and-after test; note its state first and put it back afterwards.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console useTargetFPS 0

Test VSync disabled

Turns the game's VSync off. It can feel more responsive but may show tearing, so compare it with your monitor and driver settings rather than assuming off is better.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console vsync 0

Enable VSync if tearing distracts

Turns the game's VSync back on if tearing bothers you. If you wrote down a different starting value, that is your real undo; no VSync choice is best for every monitor and driver.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console vsync 1

If FPS is still too low

Lower shadows and water first. Render scale is the last resort.

Lower-cost graphics experiment

Drops shadows and water to Low, turns ambient occlusion off, and lowers view distance, environment detail and ground clutter; the settings menu shows those three as 4, 4 and 2. Try one change at a time in the spot that was slow and keep only what actually helps.

6 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console graphicsShadowQuality 0
/console graphicsSSAO 0
/console graphicsViewDistance 3
/console graphicsEnvironmentDetail 3
/console graphicsGroundClutter 1
/console graphicsLiquidDetail 0

Try 85% render scale (last resort)

Sets render scale to 0.85, which is 85% in each direction and about 72% as many pixels to draw. Only use a value your Render Scale slider actually offers, and treat it as a last resort because it softens the picture.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console RenderScale 0.85

Return to 100% render scale

Puts render scale back to 1 (100%) after the 85% test. If you started somewhere other than 100%, type your recorded value instead.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console RenderScale 1

Keep combat cues visible

Healers need to see ground effects. Keep these on.

Preserve readable combat cues

Keeps projected textures on and particles at Medium so you can still see what is on the floor. Turning either off is a classic FPS-macro trick that can hide combat cues a healer needs.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console graphicsProjectedTextures 1
/console graphicsParticleDensity 3

Antialiasing

Try the cheap image-based option before expensive MSAA.

Antialiasing: None

Turns off both kinds of antialiasing (MSAAQuality and ffxAntiAliasingMode) so you can see how much they cost you. Write both values down first and put both back afterwards.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console MSAAQuality 0
/console ffxAntiAliasingMode 0

Antialiasing: FXAA Low test

Turns MSAA off and switches on FXAA Low (ffxAntiAliasingMode 1), the cheap way to smooth jagged edges. Compare it with None: you are trading a bit of blur for smoother edges.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console MSAAQuality 0
/console ffxAntiAliasingMode 1

Test 8x texture filtering

Sets textureFilteringMode 4, which is 8x anisotropic filtering (5 is 16x). It sharpens distant ground seen at an angle; it is not guaranteed to be free, so check your frame rate and put it back if it costs you.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console textureFilteringMode 4

Raid profile

Lower settings that switch on only in raids.

Optional lower-cost Raid profile

Turns on the separate Raid profile (RAIDsettingsEnabled 1) and gives it lighter settings for group content: Low shadows and water, Fair particles, projected textures on, ambient occlusion off, draw sliders showing 4/4/2, and High textures. If Fair particles hide something you need to see, bump them back to Medium in the Raid tab.

10 lines, 366 characters: too long for one macro. Type them one at a time in chat.
/console RAIDsettingsEnabled 1
/console raidGraphicsShadowQuality 0
/console raidGraphicsLiquidDetail 0

/console raidGraphicsSSAO 0
/console raidGraphicsViewDistance 3
/console raidGraphicsEnvironmentDetail 3
/console raidGraphicsGroundClutter 1
/console raidGraphicsTextureResolution 2

Go back to the Base profile

Switches the Raid profile off so the game uses your Base settings everywhere again. It does not reset the Raid values themselves; they are just not in use.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console RAIDsettingsEnabled 0

Responsiveness and latency

Input feel and network delay are separate from frame rate.

Optional cast on key down

Sets ActionButtonUseKeyDown 1 so your abilities fire when you press the key instead of when you let go, which can feel a touch snappier. Bars and addons that set their own useOnKeyDown behaviour can ignore it, and it does nothing for ping or FPS.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console ActionButtonUseKeyDown 1

Check whether SpellQueueWindow exists

Prints your current SpellQueueWindow value and changes nothing. We could not confirm from the Forever UI files that this setting exists or what it does here, so if it prints nil, leave it alone.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run print("SpellQueueWindow",C_CVar.GetCVar("SpellQueueWindow"))

Ask the game what SpellQueueWindow does

Asks the game for its own help text on SpellQueueWindow and prints it, changing nothing. If nothing comes back, the setting is not there and you can stop here.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run for _,v in ipairs(ConsoleGetAllCommands()) do if v.command:lower()=="spellqueuewindow" then print(v.command,v.help) end end

Try a 300 ms spell queue (only if it exists)

Sets SpellQueueWindow to 300 ms. Only try it if the game confirmed the setting exists and you are coming down from a bigger value to chase a specific casting problem: it cannot lower your ping, and too small a window leaves gaps between casts, so compare and put it back if it feels worse.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console SpellQueueWindow 300

Read home and world latency

Prints your home and world latency in milliseconds, the same numbers the game's own performance indicator uses. It is one snapshot, not an average, and it changes nothing.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run local _,_,h,w=GetNetStats(); print("Home",h,"ms; World",w,"ms")

Renderer

See which graphics API you are running.

See your graphics API choices

Prints the graphics APIs your game can use, then which one is running right now and which one gxapi is asking for (they can differ until you restart). Stick with Auto unless you are chasing a real rendering problem, and only pick names the game listed.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/run print("Available:",GetGraphicsAPIs())
/run print("Current:",GetCurrentGraphicsAPI(),"Requested:",C_CVar.GetCVar("gxapi"))

Readability and accessibility

Cooldown numbers, nameplates, a bigger cursor and less screen shake.

Turn on helpful numbers in the default UI

Turns on cooldown countdown numbers, a target-of-target frame, and health and mana text shown as both numbers and percentages (statusText and statusTextDisplay work as a pair). Pure readability, no FPS change; addon frames may do their own thing.

4 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console countdownForCooldowns 1
/console showTargetOfTarget 1
/console statusText 1
/console statusTextDisplay BOTH

Optional enemy nameplates

Shows enemy nameplates, and shows them all the time rather than only in combat. Handy for picking out mobs; not an FPS trick.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console nameplateShowEnemies 1
/console nameplateShowAll 1

A bigger cursor (64x64)

Sets cursorSizePreferred 2, which asks for a 64x64 cursor that is easier to find over a wall of party frames. The other sizes are -1 Default, 0 32x32, 1 48x48, 3 96x96 and 4 128x128; pick one you can find without it covering the thing you want to click.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console cursorSizePreferred 2

Reduce camera and UI shake

Turns camera and UI shake down to a quarter strength (0.25 for both). A comfort setting, not a performance one; put both values back to undo.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console ShakeStrengthCamera 0.25
/console ShakeStrengthUI 0.25

Disable camera and UI shake

Turns camera and UI shake off completely (0 for both). Other effects that bother you may still be there; the Motion Sickness checkbox in Accessibility handles two more camera settings as a pair.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console ShakeStrengthCamera 0
/console ShakeStrengthUI 0

Use Alternate Screen Effects

Sets overrideScreenFlash 1, the same as ticking Alternate Screen Effects in Accessibility, which tones down screen flashes. It will not remove every uncomfortable effect, but it is the right first switch if flashes bother you.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console overrideScreenFlash 1

Measure

A one-off reading, not a benchmark. Compare in the same place.

Check your FPS right now

Prints your frame rate right now as a whole number. It is a single snapshot, not an average, so read it in the same spot before and after a change.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run print("FPS",math.floor(GetFramerate()+0.5))

Commands come from the original guide and were checked against the Forever client's settings code. No frame-rate gain is promised. If the game blocks /run, use the Settings menus instead.

Launch-day recheck

On November 4, test these in the live client before turning beta advice into guild rules. Official means Blizzard announced the behavior; client means a tooltip, extracted data, or player report still needs a live check.

Glossary

Mage words in plain language. Era marks older Classic mechanics that need a Forever check; client means current tooltips or player reports rather than a Blizzard promise.

Kiting
Moving and slowing an enemy so it cannot keep hitting you while you deal damage.
Shatter combo
Two damage spells timed around a freeze to use Shatter's extra critical chance. Era timing tricks need testing in Forever.
AoE grinding
Pulling several enemies and killing them with area of effect spells. A controlled pull matters more than a big count.
Sheep
Polymorph, even if your version uses another animal. It removes one enemy from the immediate fight until it breaks.
Decurse
Remove a curse with Remove Lesser Curse. It does not remove every harmful spell effect.
Downranking
Using an older spell rank. Forever reduces bonus damage and proc chances on ranks far below your level.
Mana per second
Mana gained or spent each second. Compare a spell's total mana cost with how often you cast it.
Mp5
Mana restored every five seconds; divide by five to compare with mana per second.
Spell hit cap
The point where more spell hit stops helping against a given target. Era boss planning commonly uses 16% bonus hit; verify Forever and subtract only talents that cover the spell's school.
Winter's Chill stacks
Your personal Frost debuff. Each stack adds 2% critical chance to your Frostbolt and Ice Lance, up to five; it does not buff other mages in Forever.
Ignite
Extra damage over time caused by Fire critical strikes when talented. Forever gives each mage a separate Ignite.
Scorch stacks
The personal Fire vulnerability from Improved Scorch: 3% more of your Fire damage per stack, up to five, in the client tooltip.
Clearcasting
The Arcane Concentration effect that makes your next damage spell cost no mana. Low-rank fishing has a Forever penalty.
Spell pushback
Damage delaying a cast or shortening a channel. An enemy interrupt is a different problem.
Interrupt lockout
The time after an interrupt when the affected spell school cannot be cast. It is not always a silence of every school.
Spell school
A magic category such as Arcane, Fire, or Frost. Talents, resistance, and lockouts can apply to only one.
Resist
An enemy avoiding or reducing a spell through resistance or a hit check. Check the combat log before deciding which stat is missing.
Partial resist
A spell landing for less damage because some was resisted. Era non-binary spell behavior needs Forever testing.
Threat
The enemy's measure of whom it wants to attack. Big damage before the tank settles the pull can make you the choice.
Pull
Starting a fight with an enemy or group.
Add
An extra enemy joining the fight.
CC
Crowd control: roots, slows, sheep, and other ways to limit an enemy.
LoS
Line of sight: a clear view needed for a spell. Forever Arcane Missiles checks it at channel start.
GCD
Global cooldown: a brief pause after many abilities before another can be used.
BiS
Best in slot for a role and situation. A beta list is a shopping plan, not a lifetime guarantee.
Pre-raid
Gear and preparation available before your first raid.
Legacy
Forever's account progression, with points each character spends independently on perks.
Talented
A Legacy perk that gives class talent points up to five levels earlier. Client data keeps the maximum at 51.
era
Classic Era. Advice carrying this tag has not been confirmed for Forever.
forever
Blizzard's Classic-based game on a modern client, launching November 4, 2026.
Beta cap
The beta's maximum character level, currently 30.
Frozen
A condition by a freeze or, for spell interactions, Fingers of Frost. A movement slow alone does not qualify.
Chill
A Frost slowing effect. It can trigger Fingers of Frost; it is not itself a freeze.
Proc
An effect triggered by another action, such as Missile Barrage after a qualifying spell.
OOM
Out of mana. Call it before the group begins another pull.
Five-second rule
Era name for reduced Spirit mana regeneration during the five seconds after spending mana. Test Forever recovery rather than assuming a formula.
Peel
Use control to get an attacker off a teammate.
Diminishing returns
Repeated control effects lasting less time on a player. Era categories and reset times need Forever checks.
Mana gem
A conjured item used for mana during a fight. Create it before the pull and check its shared cooldowns.
Arcane Blast stacks
Up to four temporary stacks that make Arcane Blast more expensive and empower another damage spell. The client says that damage spell consumes them.
