  1. Type /macro while out of combat.
  2. Pick the tab with your rogue's name so the macro stays on this character.
  3. Click New, type the short name shown on the card, and pick the red question-mark icon: it lets #showtooltip show the real spell icon.

  5. Drag the macro onto an action bar and bind that slot in Options > Keybindings.
  6. Test it out of combat with every modifier listed on the card.

What Forever changed for rogues

From Blizzard's Rogue and Warlock deep dive and beta notes through October 8, plus Wowhead Forever spell and talent data with client-only details labeled.

Instant PoisonPoisons have more charges and coexist with temporary weapon enchantments.
FeintThreat reduction doubled.
SapNo longer breaks Stealth. September notes also fixed PvP flagging.
DistractLowers affected enemies' Stealth detection for 10 seconds.
Expose ArmorMatches roughly five level-appropriate Sunder Armor stacks. Warriors can still use Sunder.
MutilateNew 21-point talent. Requires two daggers; rewards poisoned targets.
VenomNew 31-point poison finisher. The client lists +30% poison damage and +10% application chance.
Flawless ExecutionNew 16-point talent: Eviscerate costs 10 less Energy.
Hack and SlashCombines weapon specializations. Axe/sword: extra attacks; dagger/fist: crit; mace: armor penetration.
Weapon ExpertiseNow reduces enemy dodge and parry chance.
Dirty TricksReplaces Improved Sap; reduces Sap and Blind Energy costs.
Improved DistractNew talent: larger radius and weaker enemy detection.
PremeditationNow a 16-point talent; points last 20 seconds.
HemorrhageDagger damage improved; boosts your own Rupture.
QuietusNew talent: stronger Sinister Strike, Ghostly Strike, and Hemorrhage below 35% enemy health.
CutthroatNew talent: Backstab can enable Ambush outside Stealth.
Thousand CutsNew 31-point talent. Rupture ticks discount the next Hemorrhage or Backstab.
Coup de GraceClient passive listed at 30: Eviscerate gains 2% damage per application of your Deadly Poison. Confirm trainer availability; this is no extra attack button.
SetupOctober 1 fixed points being awarded from the wrong enemy.
PrecisionNow covers poisons as well as weapon attacks. The client gives 3% hit for 3 points.

PvP in Forever

  • Honor buys PvP rewards. Player kills, battlegrounds, and PvP quests earn it; the October notes set its cap to 25,000.
  • Rank Points advance your rank toward High Warlord, with a weekly cap. Rank 2 unlocks the PvP trinket; rank 14 unlocks epic weapons.
  • Epic armor upgrades require the blue piece and an Emboldened Seal with a rank requirement. Check the vendor before saving for a shopping list.
  • Season journey tasks grant Honor and Rank Points; three tasks each season also grant Legacy Points. Weekly thresholds and decay need a launch check.
  • Darkspear Islands is 15 against 15 for levels 30 to 60. Hold four bases and carry the center flag to a base you own; first to 2,000 wins.
  • Queue at a capital battlemaster or the Darkspear Raiders base at Merchant Coast in the Barrens. Horde reputation rewards include equipment and an Exalted tabard quest.
  • Scout routes and call incoming enemies before starting a duel. An undefended base needs you more than the scoreboard does. Verify launch brackets rather than assuming beta queue rules.

Your PvP tools

  • Stealth (1)Approach an objective unseen and report defenders. Detection is still a risk; do not promise the team an invisible parade.
  • Sap (10)Disable a valid out-of-combat target before committing. Forever preserves Stealth; using it on a PvP-flagged target flags you.
  • Kick (12)Save Energy to stop a healer or dangerous caster. Successful interrupts lock that spell school for 5 seconds in Wowhead's Forever guide.
  • Gouge (6)A short facing-dependent timeout. Stop damage, including periodic damage, if you want it to last.
  • Sprint (10)Reach a teammate or retreat toward cover. Improved Sprint can remove movement impairment if talented; its client chance reaches 100% at 2/2.
  • Evasion (8)Buy time against weapon attacks. It is dodge support, not protection from every attack or spell (era).
  • Vanish (22)An escape or another opener when conditions allow. Damage over time can spoil a reset; verify this familiar Era limitation in Forever (era).
  • Cheap Shot (26)Start with a stun when control matters more than opening damage. Coordinate before spending both teammates' stuns together.
  • Kidney Shot (30)Spend points on a stun to protect a friend or finish a coordinated attack. Check target immunity and diminishing returns in game (era).
  • Blind (34)A later single-target timeout; unavailable at the beta cap. Keep damage off the target and test break conditions at launch (era).
  • Preparation (talent)Reset rogue cooldowns when the fight needs a second escape. The Subtlety 30 preset takes it; other level-30 presets do not.
  • Premeditation (talent)Set up two points before the opener. The client gives you 20 seconds to add to or spend them.

Poisons and lockpicking

Poisons and lockpicking turn two sharp sticks into a useful rogue toolkit. Keep both skills current, and offer to open the box before the whole group flies home.

Get your tools ready

  1. At 16, ask your rogue trainer for Pick Lock and the Horde Ratchet practice chain; keep Thieves' Tools in your bags (era route, retained in the Forever database).
  2. Practice on the ship south of Ratchet before the level-20 poison chain; aim for 100 skill so the tower lock is not the surprise.
  3. At 20, begin with Shenthul in Orgrimmar and finish through Serge Hinott in Tarren Mill; use the current quest text for beta objectives.
  4. Visit a poison supplier near the rogue trainers for vials and ingredients, then train and make the poison ranks you can use (era crafting route).
  5. Apply a poison to each weapon outside combat, inspect the weapon tooltips, and keep replacements in your bags.
  6. Put Pick Lock, the poison profession panel and your application macro on a visible utility bar; test the macro in town before the run.

Poison and lock quick reference

  • InstantShort fights: direct damage.
  • DeadlyLong fights: stacking damage; available from 30 in the Forever item listing.
  • CripplingRunners and PvP movement control.
  • Mind-numbingEligible casters: slower casts, then Kick the dangerous one.
  • WoundTargets receiving healing; usually PvP.
  • LockpickingCarry tools, check the lock requirement, open it when the group is safe.

Keep both skills useful

  • Instant PoisonUse direct Nature damage for short fights when you do not need a utility poison. It is the simple starting damage choice; a faster off hand supplies frequent chances to apply it. Wowhead's beta guide reports poison scaling with attack power; treat its tuning as client evidence.
  • Deadly PoisonUse stacking damage over time on a target that lives long enough. The Forever item starts at 30; its ticks break damage-sensitive control in Era. Do not call the best hand pairing solved for every Forever build.
  • Crippling PoisonSlow runners and enemies you need to keep close. It is a practical leveling off-hand choice when another accidental pack would cost more time than extra damage saves.
  • Mind-numbing PoisonSlow eligible enemy casts when you need help controlling a caster. It does not replace Kick, and it does not make an uninterruptible spell interruptible.
  • Wound PoisonReduce healing received on targets that actually get healed. Usually a PvP or specific-enemy tool; ask before replacing a damage poison on a raid target.
  • Buy ingredients before bedtimePoison suppliers near the Cleft of Shadow in Orgrimmar and Rogues' Quarter in Undercity sell the Era ingredients and vials. Check the recipe and current vendor stock, then buy enough for the session.
  • Apply with one keyUse this client-supported pattern; it is not beta-tested. Press normally for main-hand Instant Poison, or hold Shift for off-hand Crippling Poison, and stand still until application finishes. Replace names with the exact ranks in your bags. Code: #showtooltip /use [mod:shift] Crippling Poison; Instant Poison /use [mod:shift] 17; 16
  • Check the actual weaponInspect both weapons after applying; cooldown-tracker support does not prove the enhancement display works. Blizzard's beta notes list enhancement tracking as a known issue. Reapply when duration or charges run out.
  • Keep the new stacking ruleForever permits poison alongside sharpening stones or weightstones. Wowhead's beta ability guide also lists poison with Windfury Totem; treat that interaction as client evidence and check it live instead of copying Era's empty-main-hand rule.
  • Practice in level bandsThe Era skill cap is five times your level, up to 300. Use the Ratchet practice locks around 1-100, then Battered Footlockers in the Barrens or Stonetalon around 100-150, Desolace around 150-200, and higher-level zones as the locks stay colored. Beta at 30 only supports a 150-era cap; verify live caps.
  • Use footlockers and junkboxesFor the Era route, try Angor Fortress in Badlands around 175-225, Searing Gorge around 225-250 and Tyr's Hand in Eastern Plaguelands around 250-300. Pickpocket eligible humanoids for junkboxes along the way. Check the lock's skill requirement rather than forcing a red lock.
  • Open boxes between pullsLoot boxes after unlocking them, keep the tools, and offer the group a free opening. A gray lock gives no skill in Era; ask guildmates to save useful locked boxes instead of grinding the same empty box.
  • Match the talents to the jobImproved Poisons saves charges and helps application in Forever. Assassination's Mutilate needs two daggers, and Venom is a poison buffing finisher, not Envenom; Venom is beyond the level-30 beta talent budget. Coup de Grace is a new level-30 client passive linking Eviscerate to Deadly Poison.

Talents and Legacy

Talents begin at 10: 21 points at 30, 51 at 60. Splits read Assassination / Combat / Subtlety. These legal plans use the October 14 client tree and no Talented bonus. They are starting points, not measured winners. Level-60 plans are untested. Respec at a major-city class trainer; dual specialization opens at 40.

Legacy picks for a rogue

Legacy normally opens when an account character reaches 25. Profession and exploration challenges can open it earlier. Earn account points, then spend them separately on each character, with a 16-point spending cap at launch. Buy only what your earned points cover.

  1. Well RestedFaster rested XP and a larger rested bank. The client requires 5/5 before Talented. Bedtime has become a build choice.5 points
  2. TalentedClient ranks start talents at levels 9/8/7/6/5. At 5/5 you have 26 points at 30; the total still caps at 51.5 points
  3. Thrill of AdventureOutdoor qualifying kills return health over time. Its mana return does nothing for rogues, and it grants no Energy.5 points
  4. Field MedicineShortens Recently Bandaged outside dungeons, raids, and battlegrounds. One rank completes this leveling budget.1 point
  5. Working OvertimeAn alternative profession plan: improves skill-up chance, including Lockpicking. Replace other perks to stay within your budget.1 to 5 points

Ranks, costs, and prerequisites are client data from foreverdb.net. The first four picks cost 16 points. October 8 gave beta testers 16 points; launch requires earning them. Talented adds no points at 60.

Leveling and dungeons

Quest close to your level, keep your weapons current, and leave room for poisons and bandages. The beta stops at 30; the road to 60 uses the shared Horde route with Era planning where Forever is untested.

Horde route, 1 to 60

Finish your starting zone, visit your rogue trainer, then follow these zones in order. Take dungeon quests before leaving town, and pack a dagger if you want Backstab.

Quest rewards not to miss

These levels are practical starting points or unlock levels, not promises that you can solo the finish. Class tools count as rewards too; most older rewards below remain Era plans until checked in Forever. Horde Skyborne class-quest routing is unverified; follow the current trainer rather than assuming the Orc or Undead branch.

Is there a Horde Wintersaber?

Not confirmed. No source shows a Desolace raptor grind in Forever. The Horde counterpart players remember is the Venomhide Ravasaur from Un'Goro Crater, which arrived in Wrath of the Lich King. Forever's database lists the mount and its faction, but not how to get them.

Training and gold

Every level with something new is listed, from 1 to 60. Rogues train every two levels; poisons come from a class quest around 20, and Lockpicking rises with practice.

Ranks you can skip

  • Sinister Strike and Eviscerate first: they are your whole fight early on.
  • Daggers? Backstab ranks matter more than Sinister Strike.
  • Buy Kick and Gouge ranks before dungeons.
  • After you unlock poisons, learn the recipes from your trainer and buy the ingredients from a poison supplier: keep gold for both after 20.
  • If gold is tight before your mount, delay Distract and Feint ranks, never Eviscerate.

Gear and consumables

Your weapons do the heavy lifting. Buy useful upgrades, keep your poisons ready, and leave enough gold for training. These are practical Horde picks for Dad Bods, with beta tooltips separated from Era plans. Gaming after bedtime still leaves room for a good dagger.

What stats matter, and when

StageWhat to stackWhy
Leveling 1 to 19Main-hand weapon DPS and damage range, then Agility and StaminaIn Classic Era, a slow main hand makes Sinister Strike hit harder. A little health saves a lot of corpse running.
Leveling 20 to 30Two useful weapons, Agility, attack power and enough StaminaIn Classic Era, fast off-hands help apply poisons. Forever adds Mutilate at 21 Assassination points, available at 30. It requires two daggers; a sword score cannot change that.
Leveling 31 to 59Weapon upgrades, Agility, attack power, then hit and crit when availableIn Classic Era, finish quests for reliable weapons before paying auction-house prices. Above the beta cap, compare Forever tooltips as they become available.
Melee DPS at 60Weapons that fit your talents; hit, Agility, attack power and critIn Classic Era, hit helps special attacks and dual-wield swings differently. Forever changes Precision to cover poisons and Weapon Expertise to reduce dodge and parry. Do not import an Era weapon-skill cap or Orc axe-skill bonus.

Gear to aim for by 30

All listed equip requirements are 30 or lower. Quest minimums and high-level bosses can still make a piece hard to earn. Numeric values follow Forever tooltips, including the local cached Wowhead responses. New Brawler crafts bind on pickup. Defaults suit sword leveling; Mutilate needs two daggers. Two-Hand stays empty because rogues cannot equip two-handed weapons. Trinkets are utility options; Minor Recombobulator needs Engineering 140.

Learn First Aid alongside either profession pair. It makes healing potions, bandages, disease poultices and bleed tourniquets. Consumable level requirements differ from profession skill. Tea is an instant Energy consumable, not a drink you sit with. Above 30 uses database or Era plans, not beta-tested performance. Check live cooldown sharing before combining several consumables. The flat score uses an Era main-hand weapon-DPS coefficient for both hands for a rough comparison. Apply wdps only to melee weapons; ranged DPS should not enter the Melee DPS score. Compare speed and effects separately.

Rogue in groups

Rogue in groups: stop the nasty cast, control the extra humanoid, and hit the target the tank has. Dad Bods gets more done when the healer can finish a sip.

Set up your screen

  1. Enable enemy nameplates with cast bars and readable raid marks; give Kick its own easy key.
  2. Place energy, combo points and target debuffs near the center; the beta notes list missing combo points on the Personal Resource Display, so check the normal target display too.
  3. Turn on Target of Target and threat warnings; test any threat addon for build 1.60.1 before relying on it.
  4. Bind Sap, Gouge, Feint, Sprint and Vanish separately. The client list puts Sap at 10, Kick at 12, Feint at 16 and Vanish at 22.
  5. Show both weapon enhancements and carry spare poisons; the built-in cooldown tracker has a known enhancement-tracking issue in the beta notes.
  6. Keep party health and healer mana visible, turn on Auto Loot for Pick Pocket, and put Pick Lock and Thieves' Tools where you can find them.

Raid marks

  • SkullFirst kill target after the tank engages; take your assigned Kick.
  • CrossSecond kill target; stay on Skull until the caller switches.
  • MoonUsually mage control; keep your damage and Blade Flurry away.
  • StarYour Sap if agreed before pulling; call a resist or early break.
  • SquareAnother control target or assigned interrupt; ask the caller which.

Habits that keep the group alive

  • Sap before the pullConfirm your mark and approach from Stealth. Forever keeps you stealthed after Sap; use Distract from 22 if it helps the approach. Call a resist immediately and leave the pull to the tank.
  • Keep control asleepKeep Blade Flurry, damage-over-time effects and poison procs away from controlled enemies. Damage breaks Sap and Gouge in Era; do not apply Deadly Poison to something the group wants parked.
  • Share the kick rotationAgree first, second and backup Kick. Save energy when your turn is near, interrupt the important cast, and say when yours misses or is unavailable. These are Era group habits.
  • Use Feint before troubleForever doubled Feint's threat reduction. Watch your threat and stop attacking if needed; do not treat it as Retail's area-damage shield.
  • Assign Expose ArmorForever lets warriors keep using Sunder Armor alongside Expose Armor. Pick one rogue to maintain Expose when requested; the armor reductions do not add together.
  • Work from behindStand behind or at the safe rear flank for Backstab and fewer parries in Era. Move with the tank; a dragon's tail is not a safe rear flank.
  • Let the tank settleWait for the tank to collect the pack before opening hard. After a target change, let the new tank build a lead. That is an Era habit worth keeping.
  • Stop the runnerCrippling Poison can slow a fleeing enemy before it brings friends. Check immunity and the tank's plan; Gouge or a stun can buy time if they work.
  • Help the healerUse a bandage or Healthstone in a safe moment and move out of damage. Vanish is an Era threat reset when it succeeds, but damage over time and detection can spoil the escape; check the live behavior.
  • Save a stun for dangerCheap Shot arrives at 26 and Kidney Shot at 30 in the client list; Blind is 34, beyond beta. Use eligible control to stop an emergency, not on every immune boss.
  • Open the group's lockboxesOffer Pick Lock between pulls. Use the trade window's non-traded slot where supported, return anything traded to you, and state your skill before someone hands over a box. Era service, dad manners.
  • Check before the next pullReapply poisons, tell the tank if Sap or Kick is unavailable, and let the healer drink. Unlock a safe door when asked; stealthing ahead alone is not a group route plan.

Which ability when

Choose the ability that solves the pull in front of you. Levels follow the client trainer export; talent abilities require the matching build, and Era carryovers are marked.

SituationAt 30At 60Why
One enemy while levelingUse Sinister Strike, Backstab from behind with a dagger, or Mutilate with its talent and two daggers. Use Slice and Dice when more swings remain; Eviscerate when it can end the fight.Keep those choices; Assassination can maintain Venom, while Subtlety can use Hemorrhage with Rupture. Those deeper builds are untested.Pick a builder your weapons support and a finisher the enemy will live long enough to justify.
Several enemiesWith Blade Flurry, attack a safe target near one other enemy. Without it, ask for control and focus one down.Combat can pair Blade Flurry with Adrenaline Rush when the tank has control. Keep both enemies away from the Sap.Blade Flurry hits another nearby opponent; it does not turn a rogue into a tank.
A dangerous casterKeep Energy for Kick. If Kick is unavailable, use a valid Gouge or Kidney Shot to stop the immediate threat.Keep the same tools; Blind at 34 adds another option when its target can be controlled. Test immunity and break rules (era).Stopping the right cast usually helps more than squeezing in another builder.
An enemy starts runningUse Kidney Shot at 30 if points and Energy allow. Crippling Poison is another option once your poison access is confirmed.Keep a suitable slow or stun ready; agree who stops runners before the pull.Preventing another pack from joining saves more time than chasing an enemy through the room (era).
Your health is lowUse Evasion against dodgeable melee attacks, or Sprint toward safety. A clean Gouge can create a bandage window; existing poison or bleed ticks can break it.Blind or Vanish can add escape options when conditions allow. Do not treat Vanish as protection from ongoing damage (era).Evasion is a melee defense in Era; check Forever behavior and choose cover when the danger is a spell (era).
You have no EnergyLet auto-attacks continue while Energy recovers. Do not spend the first refill on damage if Kick is needed next.Combat can use Adrenaline Rush when talented and ready; it doubles regeneration for 15 seconds in the client tree.Rogues use Energy, not mana. Thrill of Adventure grants health and mana, so it cannot refill this bar.
The group is setting up a dungeon pullMark a valid Sap target, use Distract if useful, then Sap before the tank pulls. Wait for the group to be ready.Keep the setup; deep Subtlety talents can make control cheaper or improve Distract.Forever lets Sap preserve Stealth. A clear mark keeps friendly damage away from your work.
An enemy turns toward youUse Feint on that enemy and let the tank recover it. If danger is immediate, use a defensive tool and move toward the tank.Keep Feint handy; reserve Vanish for a planned emergency or reset after checking its live behavior (era).Feint reduces NPC threat. It does not taunt, and losing aggro is usually the right outcome for a damage rogue.
A teammate is in troubleKick the caster or Kidney Shot the melee enemy. Gouge can buy time if the target is facing you and damage will stop.Blind adds another timeout; Preparation may restore a rogue escape or control cooldown if you have the talent.Spend a finisher to save the healer. The damage meter can wait.
Choosing a PvP openerUse Cheap Shot when a stun creates the opening; use Ambush with a main-hand dagger for immediate damage. A talented Premeditation can set up points first.Add the deeper talent tools your preset actually has; keep a route back to allies and an escape cooldown.Choose control or damage for the objective. Test stun diminishing returns before planning a long chain (era).

Raids in Forever

  • Raids open December 9, 2026: Onyxia's Lair for 40 players, Barrow Deeps for 10 and Hyjal Summit for 20. Launch is November 4, with no raid opening that day.
  • Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit are confirmed new raids. Their beta boss lists contain eight and thirteen encounters; the names and order are not confirmed strategy guides.
  • The beta stops at 30. All level-60 rogue assignments, consumable quantities and resistance plans here are preparation, not tested Forever raid requirements.
  • Blizzard has not announced the live attunements for these opening raids. Keep the Era Horde Onyxia chain as a fallback, not a guaranteed entry rule.
  • Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Zul'Gurub, Ahn'Qiraj and Naxxramas have no confirmed Forever opening dates in these sources. Their boss tactics carry era tags.
  • Rogue supplies focus on poisons, Vanish powder and survival consumables. Quantities are a suggested evening's bag, not an entry fee; check cooldown sharing and current tooltips.
  • Pick one Expose Armor owner, agree Kick teams, and check enhancements before the ready check. Follow current Forever mechanics when they differ from the Era boss notes.
  • Do not buy a world-buff service or a resistance set for an untested new raid on the strength of this list. Check the live rules and the guild's actual assignment.

Before the raid: assignments

  1. Agree the Kick order, backup interrupts, Sap marks and emergency stuns.
  2. Choose one Expose Armor owner and a backup with the tanks; tell the leader if Improved Expose Armor is in your build.
  3. Confirm poison choices, cleave restrictions and survival gear with the leader; share the plan before the first pull.

Before every pull

  1. Enough health, bandages and emergency healing; ask for missing buffs before the pull.
  2. Both weapons equipped, poisons checked and any assigned stone or resistance pieces ready.
  3. Know the kill target, your Kick turn and whether Expose Armor is yours.
  4. Control mark confirmed; Sap before the pull only when the caller wants it and the target is eligible.
  5. Stand at the safe rear flank, away from controlled enemies; let the tank make contact.
  6. Check Feint, Vanish and damage cooldowns; call missing utility early, then save energy for the assigned interrupt.

Rogue jobs by raid size

RaidRoguesWho does what
10 players: Barrow Deeps1 to 2 roguesOne handles the first assigned interrupt and armor debuff; the second backs up interrupts or handles an add. Assign control only after targets and mechanics are known.
20 players: Hyjal Summit, Zul'Gurub, AQ202 to 4 roguesSplit eligible caster targets and Kick turns. One Expose Armor owner, one backup; everyone else follows kill marks and adds.
40 players: Onyxia, Molten Core and later4 to 8 roguesDivide interrupt teams by target and put a backup behind each team. Keep one armor-debuff owner per priority target; assign add bursts and resistance jobs explicitly.

Suggested roster ranges are guild planning, not a required class quota. Era interrupt and positioning habits are starting points; Barrow Deeps and Forever's Hyjal have no verified rogue boss assignments yet.

Reputations

Start with rewards that improve your actual weapons, damage or assigned survival job, and buy an enchant from another player when it saves a grind. Forever factions below distinguish confirmed systems from unverified unlocks; Era raid factions are future plans without promised dates.

FactionWhat you getHow to earn itWhen
Durotar Supply and Logistics UnverifiedCheck leatherworking, sharpening-stone and other useful crafting stock before spending Merchant's Favor. No specific rogue recipe standing is verified here; Favor is a currency separate from reputation.Fill Waylaid Crates and take them to the Horde trade hub west of the Crossroads; check the current vendor and recipe requirements.During leveling when a crate uses affordable materials.
Darkspear Raiders UnverifiedDarkspear Pauldrons have a level-60 client listing with Agility, Stamina and crit at Exalted. This is a rogue target to compare; caster Spellblades and Intellect cloaks are not automatic rogue upgrades.Play Darkspear Islands and its reputation quests or turn-ins. Check Creeg Bothunk's level versions and live costs before grinding a specific item. From the level-30 bracket for the system; the cited Pauldrons require 60, beyond beta.
RavenholdtRogue class story and pickpocket practice; the new Forever quest What's the Big Idea? lists Ravenholdt reputation. No endgame rogue gear reward for reaching Exalted is verified.Follow The Manor, Ravenholdt from the rogue trainer, then the manor's current quests. Era Syndicate kills and Heavy Junkbox turn-ins are separate older reputation methods.Check from 24; new quest difficulty may be much higher than the minimum.
Argent Dawn Era dataResistance shoulder enchants and the Era Naxxramas attunement cost reductions can matter later. No direct early rogue weapon reward makes this an urgent beta grind.Plaguelands quests, Stratholme and Scholomance, then Scourgestones while wearing the Argent Dawn Commission in Era.Around 50-60 with dungeon gearing; Forever Naxxramas timing is unknown.
Timbermaw Hold Era dataHonored unlocks Formula: Enchant Weapon - Agility for an enchanter. Cenarion Circle Era dataEmblems of Veiled Shadows gives a rogue ring, cloak and dagger. Dagger of Veiled Shadows requires Exalted plus AQ20 materials in Era; this is a later raid goal.Silithus quests and repeatable turn-ins, then AQ20 reputation and the correct Qiraji tokens, idols and scarabs.Later level-60 Ahn'Qiraj progression; Forever gates and reward tuning are unverified.
Brood of Nozdormu Era dataThe physical-damage Signet Ring of the Bronze Dragonflight path and Deathdealer's Embrace armor are later rogue goals; armor also needs AQ40 tokens and standing.Ahn'Qiraj kills and Era turn-ins such as Qiraji Lord's Insignias and Ancient Qiraji Artifacts. At 60 with AQ40 progression; no Forever opening date verified.

Rogue tips

Small habits for fewer corpse runs. Advice marked (era) comes from Classic Era and still needs a Forever check. Client tree details use the rogue snapshot; the trainer export alone does not prove an ability is trainable.

Leveling

  • Fight on your terms. Choose one enemy and a clear retreat. Stealth around a bad pull; you do not owe every boar an explanation.
  • Upgrade the working weapon. Favor a strong main-hand for Sinister Strike; compare both daggers for Mutilate. Weapon damage matters to those builders in the client descriptions.
  • Do not wait for five. Use an earlier Eviscerate when it will finish the enemy. A five-point plan is less useful after the enemy dies.

Energy and finishers

  • Keep an interrupt reserve. Leave enough Energy for Kick when a dangerous cast is due. Spending the bar on damage can leave the healer paying for it.
  • Pool with a purpose. Let Energy rise before a planned stun or burst. Spend before the bar fills so regeneration has room.
  • Use the refund talent. Relentless Strikes gives a 20% chance per point spent to restore 25 Energy. At five combo points, the client tooltip reaches 100%.

Combo points and Stealth

  • Build, then choose. Builders add points; finishers spend them. Slice and Dice supports continued attacking, Eviscerate finishes a short fight, and Kidney Shot buys control.
  • Test target switching. Wowhead's Forever abilities guide reports that changing targets alone keeps your old points until you build on another enemy. Treat that as client evidence and test before relying on it.
  • Stealth is preparation. Pick your approach before the fight. Vanish is the in-combat escape; ordinary Stealth is not a replacement. This follows Era behavior and needs a live check (era).

Dungeons

  • Name the Sap. Agree on a marker and let the tank know you are moving in. Keep the controlled enemy outside damage.
  • Stand behind, with space. Backstab needs rear access. October notes reported enemies parrying or blocking from behind when players stood too close; retest and avoid crowding the model.
  • Assign the dangerous cast. Agree who interrupts first. Call when your Kick is unavailable so another dad can cover.

Group habits

  • Bring trouble to the tank. If an extra enemy follows you, move toward the tank and call it. Running around the room turns one problem into cardio.
  • Give the healer a turn. Stop for mana and recovery before the next pull. Your Energy refilling does not refill everyone else.
  • Spend control to help. A stun on an enemy attacking the healer can matter more than your next damage finisher. Watch the group, too.

Forever tools

  • Use the new armor agreement. Discuss Expose Armor with the warrior before the boss. Its new Sunder interaction makes coordination easier.
  • Respect the dagger gates. Mutilate is an Assassination talent despite duplicate entries in the trainer export. Backstab and Ambush need a main-hand dagger; do not buy a sword and expect every button to work.
  • Read the personal bonuses. The client gives Improved Kidney Shot a bonus to your own damage. Hemorrhage boosts your Rupture, not everyone's physical attacks. Old raid advice can send you sideways.

Control without surprises

  • Protect the timeout. Gouge requires the enemy to face you; any damage breaks it in the Forever tooltip. Bleeds, poison ticks, and a friendly swing can spoil the pause.
  • Use shorter damage plans. Do not apply a long bleed to something you may need to control next. Ask whether the group wants a kill or a timeout.
  • Save the reset for a reason. Preparation resets other rogue cooldowns in the client tree. Test individual abilities; never assume it resets racial or item cooldowns.

Horde choices

  • Orc Blood Fury: +10% Attack Power and Spell Power for 15 seconds. Shatter Curse: Curse/Bane immunity and less magic damage for 8 seconds. Axe Specialization: +1% spell/ability crit with axes; Hardiness: 20% shorter stuns. Useful burst and protection.
  • Troll Berserking: +10% attack/cast speed for 10 seconds. Rapid Regeneration: restores 50% maximum health over time. Beast Slaying: +5% Beast damage; Regeneration: 10% health regeneration continues in combat. Handy between and during fights.
  • Undead Will of the Forsaken removes charm, fear, and sleep. Cannibalize restores 35% health and mana over time; rogues benefit from the health. Underwater Breathing: 300% longer breath. Touch of the Grave: occasional attack health drain.
  • Windshaper Skyborne Blizzard's Horde table also allows Skyborne rogues. Walk on Air: 10-second glide. Skysight: a blessing for +10% run speed. Wind Blessed: +1% melee/ranged/casting haste; Elemental Insight: +5% damage to Elementals. Mobility and passive damage help.

Addons and UI

Start with Blizzard's own tools, then add only what helps you watch threat, your energy and your timers. Readable bars beat a cockpit.

  • Default raid-style party frames Works in Forever

Edit Mode lets you use compact raid-style party frames and move them where you can read them. Put health bars and debuffs near your character, then use this guide's mouseover keys to heal without changing targets.

Forever UI source includes the Edit Mode setting, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • Default Cooldown Manager Works in Forever

Blizzard's tracker supports class abilities, racials, and trinkets, with consumable support still due in a later patch. Keep Fear Ward and your talented cooldowns in view before shopping for more trackers.

Blizzard's nameplates put enemy health and cast bars above the mobs. Keep enemy plates visible so you can spot a loose mob while your mouse stays near the party frames.

  • Default Damage Meter Works in Forever

The built-in meter shows healing, damage, dispels, and deaths, and you can position it in Edit Mode. Review healing and deaths after the pull; a bigger number is less useful than a living tank.

  • ThreatClassic2 Works in Forever

The Forever version shows threat for your enemy target, but its friendly-target healer mode is unavailable on this client. Rogues pull threat with crits. Check the list, and Feint before the tank loses the boss.

2.75-forever and explicit Forever limits, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • A damage and healing meter with overheal, dispel and death views. Use healing and overheal views to review wasted casts if they work in your build, rather than turning every pull into a family leaderboard.

Oct 14 release supports 1.60.1; rogue views unverified, Oct 14, 2026

  • Questie Works in Forever

Questie's Forever-supported package adds quest markers and a quest database. Use it to collect dungeon quests before the group leaves town, which saves a rogue several apologetic boat rides.

    v12.1.0+v1.0.6 lists Forever 1.60.1, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • Baganator Works in Forever

Baganator gives you searchable bags in one window or categories and requires its Syndicator dependency. Keep water, candles, potions, and spare healing gear easy to find before the tank starts counting down.

837 lists Forever support, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • Bartender4 Works in Forever

Bartender4 lets you rearrange action bars and bind their buttons. Put Kick, Gouge, Vanish and Evasion where you can hit them blind; the stealth bar swaps by itself.

4.18.3.1 lists Forever support, checked Oct 14, 2026

  • Regular WeakAuras is not a drop-in Forever setup; Musca Auras is a 1.60.1 port whose modern aura triggers work within the client's limits. Useful reminders to test are missing Inner Fire, Fear Ward cooldown, talented Power Infusion ready once learned, shield and Weakened Soul, mana potion cooldown, and a five-second-rule ticker.

Musca 1.9.1 supports 1.60.1; these rogue auras unverified, Oct 14, 2026

Add and test one addon at a time, including a Kick on your mouseover target and Vanish in combat, before adding the next.

Professions for rogues

Bills are per craft. Component labels are shortened; match them to the full trainer recipe. Orgrimmar and Undercity have trainers. Check Forever skill colors before continuing toward 225; Artisan needs level 35. Mechanical Dragonling has conflicting item and activation levels, so it is not a beta default. Gadgets often require Engineering even if someone else made them.

Tips

  • Durotar Supply and Logistics has the Horde supply camp near the Crossroads. Compare Merchant's Favor recipe costs before buying materials.
  • First Aid is secondary. Healing potions, bandages and remedies do not take a primary profession slot.
  • Thistle Tea uses Cooking 60, Swiftthistle and Refreshing Spring Water. Alchemy is not required.
  • New BoP leather belongs to its crafter. Tradeable Devilsaur gear and older crafts can be bought from a guildmate.
  • Keep gold for weapon training, class skills and repairs. You do not need to craft every blue item.

Best enchants for a rogue

Enchant a weapon you will keep, then buy cheap armor bonuses. Values follow Forever tooltips unless a row says Era. Higher-skill services are launch plans. Buy the improvement, not just the glow.

Rows are alternatives, not stacks of permanent enchants. Arrange an enchanter service; PTR-only scroll records do not prove scrolls are obtainable. Bracer Agility has two spell records: the 190 formula gives 5, while another record gives 9. Do not budget 9 without a live source. Lesser Bracer Agility lists centaur reputation requirements; it is not an easy fresh-leveling purchase. Forever officially lets poisons coexist with temporary weapon enchants. In Classic Era, Windfury competes with a main-hand temporary enchant; confirm the party setup. Head and leg arcanums are Era quest options, not ordinary Enchanting services. No verified general rogue enchant purchase is listed here for rings, trinkets, belts or shoulders.

Troubleshooting

My opener says I must be stealthed
Check the Stealth buff, selected enemy, position, and weapon; the first Stealth press does not also fire an opener.
Sap broke right away
Stop damage on the Sapped enemy and keep attack builders off that key; Forever Sap preserves your Stealth, and using it on a PvP-flagged target can flag you.
Vanish didn't drop combat
Check reagents, the cooldown, and damage still hitting you; move away and test with the default bar, because a macro cannot promise a clean escape.
My poisons wore off
Check time and remaining charges on both weapons, restock, and reapply; Forever increases charges but does not make poisons permanent.
Kick hit the wrong player
A living mouseover wins even when your selected enemy is casting; move your pointer away or use the Ctrl target override card.
Shift or Ctrl does nothing
Check for a conflicting modified keybind and try clicking the macro with the modifier held; also confirm the alternate spell is learned.
My poison leaves a glowing cursor
Check the exact item name and equipped hand, wait for application, and confirm any replacement prompt yourself; slot 16 is main hand and 17 is off hand.
The macro won't save or the spell is red
Keep the body under 256 characters including line breaks, and insert the exact learned spell name from your spellbook; focus routing still needs a beta test.

Graphics and console settings

36 commands

A steady frame rate helps you reach the next Kick and stay behind your target, while readable ground effects keep the boss's trouble visible under your boots. Start at native resolution and 100% render scale, with Low or Fair shadows, Medium particles and Projected Textures on. Cap your frame rate at what your PC can hold, and 30 in the background. Write down every value before you change it so you can put it back.

The Forever look

The September tip from Icy Veins that went around the community: render scale 98%, contrast 60, brightness 40 (some players prefer 45). The same sliders are in Settings > Graphics (Render Scale under Resolution; Contrast, Brightness and Gamma further down). It depends on your monitor, so try it in a foggy zone and keep what looks right.

Write down your current look first

Prints render scale, contrast, brightness and gamma so you can put them back.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run for _,n in ipairs({"RenderScale","Contrast","Brightness","Gamma"}) do print(n,C_CVar.GetCVar(n)) end

The Forever look: 98% scale, contrast 60, brightness 40

Icy Veins says 98% render scale cleans up the image and can save a few frames, and contrast 60 with brightness 40 makes the new fog stand out. One player post uses brightness 45. It depends on your monitor.

3 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.

Resets render scale, contrast and brightness to the client defaults. If you wrote down different values, type those instead.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run for _,n in ipairs({"RenderScale","Contrast","Brightness"}) do local d=C_CVar.GetCVarDefault(n); if d then C_CVar.SetCVar(n,d) end end

Record first

Screenshot Settings > Graphics (Base, Raid and Advanced) before you touch anything. These read-only lines print your current values to chat.

Read your current foreground cap

Prints your current maxFPS cap to chat and changes nothing. The on/off switch for the cap (useMaxFPS) is a separate setting, so this alone does not tell you whether the cap is on.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run print("maxFPS", C_CVar.GetCVar("maxFPS"))

Read the game's default cap

Prints what the game thinks the default maxFPS is, and changes nothing. That is the game's default, not the value you had before, so write your own down too.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run print("maxFPS default", C_CVar.GetCVarDefault("maxFPS"))

Record cap switches, VSync and render scale

Prints six settings in one go: both FPS caps and their on/off switches, VSync and render scale. Write the results down before you change anything so you can put them back.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run for _,n in ipairs({"useMaxFPS","maxFPS","useMaxFPSBk","maxFPSBk","vsync","RenderScale"}) do print(n,C_CVar.GetCVar(n)) end

Restore a recorded 120 FPS cap

Puts maxFPS back to 120. That is only an example: type whatever value you wrote down before tuning, not 120 because we said so.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console maxFPS 120

Reset one setting to the game's default

Asks the game for its default maxFPS and sets just that one setting back to it (swap in another name to reset a different setting). A default is not always what you had before, so if you wrote your old value down, type that instead.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run local n="maxFPS"; local d=C_CVar.GetCVarDefault(n); if d then C_CVar.SetCVar(n,d) end

Balanced starting profile

Native resolution, 100% render scale, 60 FPS while playing and 30 in the background, with combat effects kept readable.

Balanced starting profile

A readable starting profile: 60 FPS foreground, 30 background, 100% scale, Fair shadows/water, Medium particles, projected textures on, Low ambient occlusion, and moderate draw detail.

14 lines, 406 characters: too long for one macro. Type them one at a time in chat.

FPS, frame pacing and heat

Raise the cap only if your monitor and real frame rate make it worthwhile.

Test 90 FPS foreground / 30 background

Turns on both FPS caps: 90 while you are playing, 30 when the game is in the background. A cap cannot make a struggling PC reach 90; it just stops a fast one working harder and hotter than it needs to.

4 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console useMaxFPS 1
/console maxFPS 90
/console useMaxFPSBk 1
/console maxFPSBk 30

Turn the foreground cap off properly

Switches the foreground FPS cap off with its real switch, useMaxFPS 0. The old tip of setting maxFPS 0 is a guess; this is the actual switch, and your stored maxFPS number stays put for when you turn the cap back on.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console useMaxFPS 0

Disable Target FPS for a controlled test

Turns off Target FPS, a separate feature that is not the same thing as the FPS cap. Leave it as you found it unless it is muddying a before-and-after test; note its state first and put it back afterwards.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console useTargetFPS 0

Test VSync disabled

Turns the game's VSync off. It can feel more responsive but may show tearing, so compare it with your monitor and driver settings rather than assuming off is better.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console vsync 0

Enable VSync if tearing distracts

Turns the game's VSync back on if tearing bothers you. If you wrote down a different starting value, that is your real undo; no VSync choice is best for every monitor and driver.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console vsync 1

If FPS is still too low

Lower shadows and water first. Render scale is the last resort.

Lower-cost graphics experiment

Drops shadows and water to Low, turns ambient occlusion off, and lowers view distance, environment detail and ground clutter; the settings menu shows those three as 4, 4 and 2. Try one change at a time in the spot that was slow and keep only what actually helps.

6 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console graphicsShadowQuality 0
/console graphicsSSAO 0
/console graphicsViewDistance 3
/console graphicsEnvironmentDetail 3
/console graphicsGroundClutter 1
/console graphicsLiquidDetail 0

Try 85% render scale (last resort)

Sets render scale to 0.85, which is 85% in each direction and about 72% as many pixels to draw. Only use a value your Render Scale slider actually offers, and treat it as a last resort because it softens the picture.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console RenderScale 0.85

Return to 100% render scale

Puts render scale back to 1 (100%) after the 85% test. If you started somewhere other than 100%, type your recorded value instead.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console RenderScale 1

Keep combat cues visible

Healers need to see ground effects. Keep these on.

Preserve readable combat cues

Keeps projected textures on and particles at Medium so you can still see what is on the floor. Turning either off is a classic FPS-macro trick that can hide combat cues a healer needs.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console graphicsProjectedTextures 1
/console graphicsParticleDensity 3

Antialiasing

Try the cheap image-based option before expensive MSAA.

Antialiasing: None

Turns off both kinds of antialiasing (MSAAQuality and ffxAntiAliasingMode) so you can see how much they cost you. Write both values down first and put both back afterwards.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console MSAAQuality 0
/console ffxAntiAliasingMode 0

Antialiasing: FXAA Low test

Turns MSAA off and switches on FXAA Low (ffxAntiAliasingMode 1), the cheap way to smooth jagged edges. Compare it with None: you are trading a bit of blur for smoother edges.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console MSAAQuality 0
/console ffxAntiAliasingMode 1

Test 8x texture filtering

Sets textureFilteringMode 4, which is 8x anisotropic filtering (5 is 16x). It sharpens distant ground seen at an angle; it is not guaranteed to be free, so check your frame rate and put it back if it costs you.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console textureFilteringMode 4

Raid profile

Lower settings that switch on only in raids.

Optional lower-cost Raid profile

Turns on the separate Raid profile (RAIDsettingsEnabled 1) and gives it lighter settings for group content: Low shadows and water, Fair particles, projected textures on, ambient occlusion off, draw sliders showing 4/4/2, and High textures. If Fair particles hide something you need to see, bump them back to Medium in the Raid tab.

10 lines, 366 characters: too long for one macro. Type them one at a time in chat.
/console RAIDsettingsEnabled 1
/console raidGraphicsShadowQuality 0
/console raidGraphicsLiquidDetail 0
/console raidGraphicsParticleDensity 2
/console raidGraphicsProjectedTextures 1
/console raidGraphicsSSAO 0
/console raidGraphicsViewDistance 3
/console raidGraphicsEnvironmentDetail 3
/console raidGraphicsGroundClutter 1
/console raidGraphicsTextureResolution 2

Go back to the Base profile

Switches the Raid profile off so the game uses your Base settings everywhere again. It does not reset the Raid values themselves; they are just not in use.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console RAIDsettingsEnabled 0

Responsiveness and latency

Input feel and network delay are separate from frame rate.

Optional cast on key down

Sets ActionButtonUseKeyDown 1 so your abilities fire when you press the key instead of when you let go, which can feel a touch snappier. Bars and addons that set their own useOnKeyDown behaviour can ignore it, and it does nothing for ping or FPS.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console ActionButtonUseKeyDown 1

Check whether SpellQueueWindow exists

Prints your current SpellQueueWindow value and changes nothing. We could not confirm from the Forever UI files that this setting exists or what it does here, so if it prints nil, leave it alone.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run print("SpellQueueWindow",C_CVar.GetCVar("SpellQueueWindow"))

Ask the game what SpellQueueWindow does

Asks the game for its own help text on SpellQueueWindow and prints it, changing nothing. If nothing comes back, the setting is not there and you can stop here.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run for _,v in ipairs(ConsoleGetAllCommands()) do if v.command:lower()=="spellqueuewindow" then print(v.command,v.help) end end

Try a 300 ms spell queue (only if it exists)

Sets SpellQueueWindow to 300 ms. Only try it if the game confirmed the setting exists and you are coming down from a bigger value to chase a specific casting problem: it cannot lower your ping, and too small a window leaves gaps between casts, so compare and put it back if it feels worse.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console SpellQueueWindow 300

Read home and world latency

Prints your home and world latency in milliseconds, the same numbers the game's own performance indicator uses. It is one snapshot, not an average, and it changes nothing.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run local _,_,h,w=GetNetStats(); print("Home",h,"ms; World",w,"ms")

Renderer

See which graphics API you are running.

See your graphics API choices

Prints the graphics APIs your game can use, then which one is running right now and which one gxapi is asking for (they can differ until you restart). Stick with Auto unless you are chasing a real rendering problem, and only pick names the game listed.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/run print("Available:",GetGraphicsAPIs())
/run print("Current:",GetCurrentGraphicsAPI(),"Requested:",C_CVar.GetCVar("gxapi"))

Readability and accessibility

Cooldown numbers, nameplates, a bigger cursor and less screen shake.

Turn on helpful numbers in the default UI

Turns on cooldown countdown numbers, a target-of-target frame, and health and mana text shown as both numbers and percentages (statusText and statusTextDisplay work as a pair). Pure readability, no FPS change; addon frames may do their own thing.

4 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console countdownForCooldowns 1
/console showTargetOfTarget 1
/console statusText 1
/console statusTextDisplay BOTH

Optional enemy nameplates

Shows enemy nameplates, and shows them all the time rather than only in combat. Handy for picking out mobs; not an FPS trick.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console nameplateShowEnemies 1
/console nameplateShowAll 1

A bigger cursor (64x64)

Sets cursorSizePreferred 2, which asks for a 64x64 cursor that is easier to find over a wall of party frames. The other sizes are -1 Default, 0 32x32, 1 48x48, 3 96x96 and 4 128x128; pick one you can find without it covering the thing you want to click.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console cursorSizePreferred 2

Reduce camera and UI shake

Turns camera and UI shake down to a quarter strength (0.25 for both). A comfort setting, not a performance one; put both values back to undo.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console ShakeStrengthCamera 0.25
/console ShakeStrengthUI 0.25

Disable camera and UI shake

Turns camera and UI shake off completely (0 for both). Other effects that bother you may still be there; the Motion Sickness checkbox in Accessibility handles two more camera settings as a pair.

2 lines. Type them one at a time in chat, or paste all into a temporary macro and click it once.
/console ShakeStrengthCamera 0
/console ShakeStrengthUI 0

Use Alternate Screen Effects

Sets overrideScreenFlash 1, the same as ticking Alternate Screen Effects in Accessibility, which tones down screen flashes. It will not remove every uncomfortable effect, but it is the right first switch if flashes bother you.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/console overrideScreenFlash 1

Measure

A one-off reading, not a benchmark. Compare in the same place.

Check your FPS right now

Prints your frame rate right now as a whole number. It is a single snapshot, not an average, so read it in the same spot before and after a change.

Type or paste into chat and press Enter.
/run print("FPS",math.floor(GetFramerate()+0.5))

Commands come from the original guide and were checked against the Forever client's settings code. No frame-rate gain is promised. If the game blocks /run, use the Settings menus instead.

Launch-day recheck

On November 4, retest these in the live client and tell Whokaers what changed. Level-60 combat and December 9 raid behavior remain untested until we can reach them.
